If looks may be misleading, the Oscar breed is living proof. This is a lovely species that spends its time in the aquarium swimming beautifully. But, as I have stated, appearances may be misleading. These organisms are highly hostile to their tank mates. Because they may grow up to 12 inches long and are omnivores, you should be cautious while selecting tank mates for them. Actually, the Oscars are a race of Cichlids, thus their aggressive conduct against others should come as no surprise.
They spend the most of their time swimming in the aquarium's center sections. However, occasionally they will go to the bottom in quest of food. It's best to look for other breeds of fish for your tank if you're not yet an experienced fish keeper.
The Oscar, otherwise known as Astronotus ocellatus, is a type of cichlid fish. This vibrant species makes an excellent addition to many aquariums.
